Map Monday, Most Famous Kevin from each State?

Most famous Kevin from each state? What kind of topic is that for a Map Monday post?

My first response is that it’s an excellent topic. It contains the three essential ingredients for a Map Monday feature. First, the topic must interest me. Kevin is a name and I’ve never hidden my interest in names. Second, that interest has to translate to a map. A list of famous Kevins by state might be interesting, but not for Map Monday.

All right, those two points are rather obvious, but as long time readers know I don’t let the obvious get in the way of a deadline. The final key to a great Map Monday post is…money. To be clear, I don’t make any direct money from these posts. Other sections of my site do provide links to my books for which I do collect royalties. However, that’s not what I’m referring to here. All maps featured on this blog (as far as I can verify) are free use. Meaning, I make every effort to credit the mapmaker or at least the site where I found the map, but no money changes hands.

So that begs the next question. Did someone actually publish a free use map of famous people named Kevin? Obviously the answer is yes. A more interesting question is how on earth did I find it. To be honest, I have no recollection of how I found it.

Before we get to this month’s map, which comes courtesy of Ryan Nikum of Estately.com, I wanted to share the meaning of the name Kevin. From behindthename.com here’s the summarized history of the name Kevin.

“Anglicized form of the Irish name Caoimhín, derived from the older Irish Cóemgein, composed of the Old Irish elements cóem “kind, gentle, handsome” and gein “birth”. Saint Caoimhín established a monastery in Glendalough, Ireland in the 6th century and is the patron saint of Dublin.”

Without further adieu here’s our featured map.

Which state has your favorite Kevin? Do you dispute any of the Kevins listed?

As always thanks for reading.

Note to pay the bills: While the Warders series doesn’t feature a character named Kevin, it does include a trove of well thought out fantasy names. If you’re interested in a James Bond-like thriller in a high fantasy setting, then, check out a summary of the series here or find links to purchase books here.

  1. Believe it or not, until roughly 2 years ago I used to publish these every Monday. Eventually, that caught up to me and I had to fall back to the first Monday of the month. FWIW, readership of my blog increased after the change – I guess you can have too much of a good thing….That said – thank you so much for the nice comments about my books. I really appreciate your support.

  2. Love your Monday maps. Just can’t figure out if you have too much time on your hands or really “dig” research. I feel bad for Georgia on this map. It seems they are so deficient in Kevins that they have to substitute a TV show character. BTW, for the benefit of those who have never read your work – buy it; read it; you’ll enjoy it.
