Cover Reveal for An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody by D L Gardner

I am honored that the talented Dianne Gardner asked me to participate in the cover reveal for her latest book by An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody, a comic, vampire murder mystery.  The pre-release reviews are coming in and they’re fantastic!

“Campy, fun, for some reason the writing and characterization remind me of The Confederacy of the Dunces…This is a fun, imaginative book. It’s well written and well told. ” – review from Ingram Sparks

Here’s a quick synopsis of the tale…..

The vampire Rockford Peadlebody is dead.

His brother Gerald, his wife Ginger, and their son Raymond, all with a trickle of the same bloodline, head for grandpa’s estate only to discover that the great and mysterious Benjamin Peadlebody died a week earlier. It seems fishy to Gerald-two untimely deaths in the family. Yes, Rockford’s demise was of his own doing, but Benjamin? Perhaps the servant, a reserved, tattooed muscleman Richard Cottlebone knows more than he’s letting on.

No help comes from Ginger. She’s too busy trying to un-vampire herself. And Raymond just wants to be in love. Pity the mystery is in his lap, but Gerald presses on despite the stone cold receptions he gets…

Here’s the cover and a brief excerpt from the soon to be released An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody

an unconventional mr. peadlebodyHis gaze drifted to the woman with the turban. She stood close enough to him that the scent of her perfume gagged him. He coughed into his handkerchief again and tucked it back in the pocket on the inside of his coat when her head turned toward him. He gave her a cordial smile; which he knew she saw but did not return.
She stepped up to the punch table on the other side of the guest bookstand and leaned over the elaborate centerpiece as though enjoying the smell of the flowers. She wasn’t sniffing them, though. She was picking at them. Raymond grimaced as he watched, his curiosity getting the better of him. Her long painted fingernails reached into the center of a gladiola and pulled out an earwig. She didn’t fuss, nor did she drop the bug. Instead, with one hand, she held the struggling creature by its pincers up in the air, and with the other, she lifted her sunglasses ever so slightly.

What happened then stopped Raymond’s heart. The bug turned white. She dropped it. The insect shattered into a thousand tiny chips, as if it were a porcelain statuette shattering on a tile floor. The woman quickly brushed the splinters onto the carpet.

She turned sharply and looked at Raymond. Her glasses were back on again and there was a nasty smile on her face as she lifted a glass of punch off the table.

“What are you staring at, mortal?” Her words struck him like a lightning bolt. The wicked grin plastered to her face dared Raymond to answer.
