Book Reviews

Like most authors I’m also an avid reader.  My fiction tastes include fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction, while my non-fiction reading typically features history.  I will also read an occasional biography, mystery, or something else outside my normal zone.  Much of my fictional reading is meant for teens or young adults.  It’s not only a good idea for me to read my competition, it’s also a great way for me to connect with my own children.

CodexAs I am always asking (or is it harping on or pleading with) my readers for reviews, I feel it would be somewhat hypocritical of me not to write reviews for books I’ve read.  Given all of the other things I attempt to do (running a business, coaching, and oh yeah writing) and the things on my to do list (my next painting, learning French, piano lessons?) I’ve decided to pace myself.

While I read many popular authors (McDevitt, Benford, Pressfield, Cornwell, etc.), they get plenty of reviews.  So my reviews will focus on fellow small-press and indie authors.  I don’t give out stars.  My reviews (except the older ones) will give a brief description of the story, comments on the writing, and an appropriate age level recommendation.  Most will also include a picture of the cover and a link for purchase (typically Amazon, but sometimes an Author’s page).  Note:  I do NOT receive any compensation for book purchases.

How to find reviews

The reviews are organized by genre (Fantasy, Science Fiction, Other Fiction, & Non-Fiction.  The latest reviews in each genre appear in the drop down menus, while the landing page for each genre includes a full list.

If you like my review or it helps you find a new author, please leave a positive comment.  Alternatively, like the page or follow my blog.  I’ll occasionally announce review updates via my blog.  If you don’t like them, all I ask is that you be polite about it.

Thanks,

Armen

    this is wonderful 🙂

    1. Thanks Marale. I must admit that it contains woefully fewer reviews than I’d like, but I hope to remedy that in the not too distant future.

I agree, there is no need to get nasty. Sometimes it is just a matter of taste. Writing is an art form and not everyone is going to appreciate it.

I like the way you think.

    1. Yes, the world would be much more enjoyable if everyone was just a tad more polite. We don’t have to agree, but there’s really no reason to be rude about our disagreements. On the flip side, perhaps I should be flattered that anything I might say could elicit strong emotions – positive or otherwise.
